Spectra is a free, serverless file hosting and embedding tool. It lets you upload videos and images, then generates custom links that display as rich embeds in Discord — complete with thumbnails, titles, and video players. No account needed.
What's the file size limit?▶
You can upload files up to 2.5 GB. Spectra uses a proprietary Edge-Chunking Protocol that securely slices large files into micro-segments and streams them through a global edge network, then reassembles them on the server. This bypasses standard browser upload limits entirely.
Does it work with Discord?▶
Yes — that's the main feature. When you share a Spectra link in Discord, it renders as a rich embed with your custom thumbnail and title. Discord's parser reads Open Graph tags served by Spectra to display the preview, including a native video player for supported formats.
What video formats are supported?▶
MP4 is recommended and works best in Discord. Other containers like MKV and MOV may also work if they use H.264 video and AAC audio codecs. If your video doesn't play in Discord, you can convert it to MP4 using a tool like vert.sh.
Do I need an account?▶
No. Spectra requires no sign-up, no login, and no personal information. Just upload and get your link instantly.
How long do uploads stay online?▶
Forever. There's no expiry on your uploads. Files are stored permanently unless the hosting provider removes them, which is rare.
Can I use a remote URL instead of uploading?▶
Yes. Use the “Link Upload” tab to paste a direct link to a file hosted elsewhere. Spectra will create a custom embed link for it without re-uploading the file. Works with Discord CDN, Telegram, and most direct download URLs.
What are the advanced options?▶
Custom Name — sets the title shown in Discord embeds and the viewer page. Aspect Ratio — controls the video player dimensions (e.g., 1280x720). Thumbnail — paste a URL or upload an image to use as the embed preview.
Is it free?▶
Completely free. Spectra runs on a global edge network — zero cost, zero ads, zero tracking, no premium tiers. No hidden fees and no plans to monetize.
How does the chunked upload work?▶
When you select a file, Spectra slices it into micro-segments using the browser's File API. Each segment is streamed individually through our edge network in three phases: session initialization, segment transfer, and file assembly. This completely bypasses standard browser payload limits and hosting restrictions.
